This man of letters was Egyptian by birth but of Syrian origin. He is regarded as one of the princes of literary prose in the twentieth century and one of the most famous defenders of Classical Arabic and of the inimitability of the Quran. He developed a distinctive literary school followed by a group of writers in Egypt, Iraq and the Levant, and was renowned for his original thought, eloquent language and powerful expression, so much so that he was dubbed “the Miracle of Arabic Literature”. Among his most famous books is “The Inimitability of the Quran and Prophetic Eloquence”, which is considered one of his most important works. Al-Rafi'i is one of the most prominent pillars of modern Arabic literature in the twentieth century and one of the most famous Arab writers of all time.
