Tajrid al-Tawhid al-Mufid – Taqi al-Din al-Maqrizi
Tawhid (the oneness of God) is the essence of religion; it is what all the prophets and all the revealed laws have in common. The Quran contains dozens of verses affirming the oneness of Allah, such as His saying, the Exalted: ﴿وَإِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِيمُ﴾ “And your god is one God; there is no deity except Him, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful” [Al-Baqarah: ١٦٣]. It was therefore essential for Muslims to devote attention to tawhid, since it is the core and reality of religion, so they dedicated to it a discipline they called the science of tawhid, which can be described simply as the science that examines the attributes of majesty and perfection that must be affirmed for Allah, what is impossible for Him of everything unbefitting Him, and what actions are possible for Him; as well as what must be affirmed for the messengers and prophets, what is impossible for them and what is possible in their regard; and what relates to that of belief in the revealed scriptures, the pure angels, the Day of Resurrection and Recompense, and divine decree and predestination. The benefit of this science is the correction of belief, safety in the final outcome, and the attainment of happiness in both worlds. Happiness in both worlds can only be achieved if the servant’s good deeds are accepted, and it is established that a servant’s deeds are accepted only if they are done purely for the sake of his Noble Lord; hence the phrase «There is no god but Allah» is called the word of tawhid and the word of sincerity. Because of the importance of tawhid for every human being, Dar al-Farouk for Cultural Investments is pleased to present a unique and important book that explains some of the meanings of tawhid: Tajrid al-Tawhid al-Mufid (The Beneficial Purification of Monotheism) by the eminent scholar Taqi al-Din al-Maqrizi
