Poor Folk Dostoevsky

The heroes in this novel are oppressed, tormented, humiliated, and disgraced. The villains inflict all kinds of injustice upon them, and they endure unbearable poverty. Makar endures humiliation and hunger, sacrificing everything he can get, which is very little, for the sake of the poor girl whom he barely sees and dares not visit for fear of gossip. "Poor Folk" is one of Dostoevsky's novels that tackled an important social phenomenon in the Russian context, which is the phenomenon of poverty and its effects on society. Dostoevsky was a realist, starting his novels from the midst of the social problems of the Russian people. It is worth noting that this novel is his first, the cause of his fame, and one of his smallest in size.
