Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim ibn Kathir
Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Azim is one of the most famous Islamic books specialized in the science of interpreting the Holy Quran, and it is considered one of the most renowned works in the field of interpretation by tradition (tafsir bi al-ma'thur) or interpretation of the Quran by the Quran itself.
It relies on interpreting the Quran with the Holy Quran, and the Prophetic Sunnah, and it also mentions authenticated hadiths and narrations attributed to their sources, as well as the sayings of the Companions and their successors.
It also paid attention to the Arabic language and its sciences, focused on chains of narration (asanid) and their criticism, and highlighted the different readings and the reasons for the revelation of the verses.
It also includes jurisprudential rulings, gives attention to prophetic hadiths, and is known for being almost free of Isra'iliyat (stories of Jewish or Christian origin). Some place it after Tafsir al-Tabari in rank, while others prefer it over al-Tabari's work.
