Muhammad Abdullah Daraz was a prominent Egyptian Islamic thinker and scholar, born in the village of Mahallet Diay, Kafr El Sheikh Governorate, on November 8, 1894. He grew up in a household of knowledge and piety, as his father was a renowned and widely knowledgeable jurist and linguist. Daraz studied at Al-Azhar and obtained his Al-Alimiyyah degree in 1916. He was appointed as a teacher in 1928 and a professor of Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) at the Faculty of Usul al-Din (Principles of Religion). He traveled to France on an academic scholarship in 1946 and obtained his doctorate with honors from the Sorbonne University in 1947.

He was loved by his students and colleagues alike for his noble character and great humility despite his vast knowledge. The Sheikh has many academic studies and treatises in religious sciences, in addition to his lectures that he delivered in classrooms, academic forums, and conferences.

About the book Islamic Studies in Social and International Relations

“Islam is considered the language of submission and surrender to the will of God without reservation or condition. This absolute surrender requires, at a minimum, the belief that everything revealed by God throughout human history is true and just, and the Quran has clarified that all messengers since ancient times used the word “Islam” as the name for their religion.”
