About the author of Ibn Battuta's Journey book

Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Tanji, a traveler, historian, and judge from the Lawata tribe in Morocco, was given the title "Prince of Muslim Travelers". He departed from Tangier in the year 725 AH and traveled through the Maghreb, Egypt, Abyssinia, the Levant, Hijaz, Tihama, Najd, Iraq, Persia, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Turkestan, and other regions including India, China, Java, Tatar lands, Central Africa, and Andalusia. He met many kings and princes, praised them with his poetry, and benefited from their gifts during his travels. The title "Ibn Battuta" was given to him by the Franks, and it was the title that people later adopted.
