About the author of A Summary of the History of the Arabs

The French Orientalist and historian Louis Sédillot was born in Paris in 1808 CE. His father was a French Orientalist and astronomer interested in mathematics and the sciences, from whom he inherited his love of learning and inquiry. He learned languages and mathematics from his father, then enrolled at the University of Paris, where he obtained a licence (bachelor's degree) in law

After graduating, Louis Sédillot worked as a history teacher at secondary schools in Paris, and continued to pursue his father's historical research in astronomy and the Arab sciences, drawing on his knowledge of Arabic. His views at times attracted controversy and attack, especially after he praised the contributions of the Arabs to various fields of science

Among his famous works is “A Summary of the History of the Arabs”, which was translated into Arabic by Muhammad Ahmad Abd al-Raziq and reviewed by Mubarak. Louis Sédillot died in 1875 CE
