In this book, “Zad al-Muhajir ila Rabbih (Provisions for the Traveler Migrating to His Lord),” the author Ibn al-Qayyim explains how to migrate to Allah, the means a Muslim must take to reach his Lord, and the true nature of piety and faith…
Allah has commanded His servants to flee to Him, to seek refuge in His protection and to migrate toward His good pleasure. The flight is from the mire of disobedience to the gardens of obedience; the refuge is from the tyranny of created beings to the might of the Lord of the Worlds; and the migration is from the narrowness of this world and its burdens to the vastness of Allah’s mercy and the excellence of His guidance. Since this world is an abode of exile and passage, not a homeland or place of settlement, Allah guided His servants to the most important means by which they can cover the stages of the journey to Him and spend the rest of their lives on it. The One in whose hand is all guidance showed that the most important thing a servant should seek is migration to Allah and His Messenger. Migration is of two kinds: a migration of the body from one land to another, and a migration of the heart to Allah and His Messenger. The latter is the true migration and the essential one: the servant migrates with his heart from loving other than Allah to loving Him, from serving others to worshipping Him, from fearing, hoping in and relying on others to fearing, hoping in and relying on Him, and from calling upon others, asking of them, submitting to them and humbling himself before them, to calling upon Him, asking of Him, submitting to Him and humbling himself before Him. This is precisely the meaning of fleeing to Him, and the pure monotheism required of the servant is fleeing from Allah to Allah. In this book, “Zad al-Muhajir ila Rabbih (Provisions for the Traveler Migrating to His Lord),” the author Ibn al-Qayyim explains how to migrate to Allah, the means a Muslim must take to reach his Lord, and the true nature of piety and faith… along with other paths of migration, what hinders it and what makes it beloved. “Dar al-Farouk for Cultural Investments” is pleased to present this valuable book to its readers, in the hope that it will be a provision on the ongoing journey of life for whoever reads it
